Team Therapy Project
Drogheda ABACAS Special School and Autism Support Louth & Meath were delighted to receive funding from the JBDB Fund at the Community Foundation last year for our Team Therapy Project. This project provided comprehensive and continuous therapeutic support for autistic children and teenagers in the Louth and Meath areas. This project set out to address the critical need for coordinated therapeutic services that is currently very difficult to receive for autistic children.
Over the past year the programme integrated various therapeutic disciplines—Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and Music Therapy—into a cohesive support framework within the Drogheda ABACAS Special School, Saturday club, and summer programmes. Key components included collaboration among therapists, families, teachers, special needs assistants, and youth club staff to create therapeutic plans linked to the children’s education and development plans, scalability to adjust participant numbers and therapy combinations, and participation of teachers and staff to ensure effective integration of activities.
It is an example of how directed therapies delivered in school and group settings with parents and staff included can really directly benefit autistic children, providing much needed therapies in an effective, integrated and cost- effect manner. This project was a huge success and we would like to thank the JBDB Fund for their support.
